Delhi HC asks actor Rajpal Yadav to undergo 6-day jail term for contemptThe Delhi High Court Friday directed Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav to surrender before Tihar Jail by July 15 to serve out the remaining six days of the 10-day imprisonment awarded to him in 2013 for filing a false affidavit. Yadav had spent four days in jail from December 3 to 6 in 2013, after which a division bench of the high court had suspended the sentence on his appeal.

The bench of Justice S Ravindra Bhat and Justice Deepa Sharma upheld the sentence awarded by a single judge bench in December 2013, saying Yadav’s “failure to follow procedure cannot be countenanced”. It said despite being given adequate time to explain his conduct, “he resorted to falsehood”.

Yadav had been held guilty of contempt of court for filing a false affidavit in a civil suit filed against him by a businessman. The single judge bench had imposed the sentence after it found Yadav had been “misleading” the court regarding his whereabouts to delay the hearing.
