Few hours after Dr Govinda KC accused Lokman Singh Karki, the chief of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), of corruption and demanded impeachment against him, the CIAA hit back at the veteran orthopaedic surgeon dubbing his demands “an indication of meanness, anarchy and unhealthy mind.” In a statement, CIAA Spokesperson Krishna Hari Pushkar accused Dr KC of dereliction of duty and repeatedly failing to behave properly, and asked the government “to make an appropriate arrangement for Dr KC’s treatment as soon as possible”. Dr Govinda KC, professor at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, announced on Sunday that he will start a hunger strike from July 10 if if the government doesn’t abide by the agreements reached with him in the past. This will be the seventh time Dr KC will stage a hunger strike demanding reforms in Nepal's medical sector.Dr KC accused Karki, a public official supposed to control corruption, of indulging in corruption himself. He blamed Karki for promoting medical colleges of his relatives by blackmailing government officials concerned. Dr KC made the hunger strike announcement by organising a press conference at the hospital.
