As many as 22 members of six families are reeling under precarious condition due to downpour-triggered landslide in remote Ree VDC-9 Cheprang of northern Dhading. The helpless locals came across the unsafe condition when the landslide occurred after the heavy rain on Wednesday evening obstructed their outlet to safer areas. Though the District Disaster Management Committee held an emergency meeting to rescue the landslide-affected locals no effort has been made as of Thursday. Chief District Officer Biswo Prakash Subedi informed that the committee held the meeting to immediately rescue the affected people living under the tents. The rescue effort has not been materialized as it is tougher for the rescue team to reach to the temporary shelter of Tamang people due to massive landslide in the surround, said Akash Tamang over phone. The District Police Office has informed that a police squad was deputed to the landslide-hit area immediately after they knew the incident. But, no further information has been received as the area is far away, police said.

Number of doctors annually produced in Nepal from home and abroad ranges from 1,500 to 2,000. According to the data of the Nepal Medical Council, the rate is on the rise. NMC Administrative Chief Anita Lama said the number of doctors produced in Nepal is increasing every year. However, average 50 per cent of them are found to have passed the examination held at NMC for doctor registration certificate. Lama said, “It is not rather good that such a big percentage of doctors fails in the examination. Still the number of doctors produced abroad shares high on fail per cent. We are searching the reason why the big numbers of doctors do not pass through the examination”. Some of the examinees were failure in council registration examination for over 33 times while some were found fake, she added. NMC Registrar Dilip Sharma expressed his confidence that the ongoing investigation into the doctors would also check the fake examinees attending the NMC examinations. The NMC has been conducting doctor registration certificate examination for MBBS passs out students four times a year while it takes specialist exams twice a year for specialist doctors. -

Jul 1, 2016- Police have arrested notorious gangster Rajiv Gurung alias ‘Deepak Manangey’ from Kathmandu late on Thursday for his alleged involvement in extortion. He was arrested last night along with his accomplice Rajkumar Singh.

Metropolitan Police Range Chief SSP Bikram Singh Thapa said Manangey was arrested for investigation after complaints were filed against him for extorting money. However, he did not divulge the details of the charges against the gangster.

Manangey has been facing a disproportionate property case at the special court on charge of amassing illegal property through criminal activities. His case is pending at the Special Court.

He gained notoriety because of his criminal activities in Thamel and owns night business in Kathmandu.

Minister for Agriculture Haribol Gajurel has stressed the need to advance existing agriculture system in a more scientific manner.
Inaugurating the stray cattle shed constructed at Nawadurga Community Forest in Shankarpur of Kanchanpur on Wednesday, Minister Gajurel said the government is coming up with perspective plan for agro sector development.
He claimed that the perspective plan will develop capacity of farmers and improve agro productivity. The plan includes construction of clod store in different parts of the country, announcement of crop, fruits and vegetable pocket areas and construction of purchase centre linking farmers’ products to markets.

Studies show that child marriages occur most frequently among the least educated, poorest girls living out in the countryside.

According to the (NDHS), 17 percent of married adolescent girls between 15 and 19 years are either pregnant or are mothers already. In fact, research shows that adolescent mothers give birth to 81 out of every 1,000 children in Nepal.

The survey also shows that 86 percent of married adolescents do not use any form of contraception, meaning that few girls are able to space their births.

Though the number of women in Nepal Army is far outnumbered by their male counterparts, the national army has given top priority to women representation in the upcoming peacekeeping missions as per the strategies floated by the United Nation.The UN has demanded more female peacekeepers to improve the overall approach to current peacekeeping operations in order to focus more on protection of civilian and to enhance civil-military cooperation.Although women are being recruited by the Nepal Army since 1962, there are only 3,641 women soldiers and officers in the 96,500-strong army. As of March 27 this year, 4,410 peacekeepers from Nepal Army are being deployed in different missions in different conflict-hit zones. The number of female soldiers currently deployed in different missions is only 98.
Of the total women deployed in UN missions, Lieutenant Colonel Ratna Adhikari (Khatri) is commanding a top post in UN mission and Colonel Aarya Rajya Laxmi Pandey is the highest ranked Nepali woman officer in the UN mission till date, according to the NA’s Directorate of Public Relations.
NA’s Spokesperson Brigadier General Tara Bahadur Karki said that the number of female representation will be increased in the upcoming missions.

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has ordered a probe into the results of toppers of intermediate exams a couple of days after Aaj Tak showed a report highlighting their poor knowledge about the subjects they had excelled in.

The BSEB has put on hold the results of Arts topper Ruby Ray and Science topper Saurabh Sreshtha. The board has announced a review exam for both of them on June 3.The Aaj Tak video report, which has gone viral now, has raised serious questions over the Bihar government’s education system. State Education Minister Ashok Chaudhury has admitted the lapse.

Choudhury has assured a swift probe into the issue and said the government will take strict action against those responsible.

Term Policies
Term life insurance is guaranteed. The premium is set at issue and clearly stated right in the policy. An annual renewable term policy has a premium that goes up every year. Nepal is set to propose China for resumption of the direct bus service between Kathmandu and Lhasa when senior tourism officials of the two countries meet here next week after a gap of over 10 years.During the two-day meeting, the officials will discuss on expanding tourism, trade and other facilities in the border area.


The much-talked about bus link between the two cities, which was launched in May, 2005, failed to move ahead after 2006 for various reasons, includiing visa constraints.
On May 1, 1994, the two neighbours had signed an agreement on trade and transit, paving the way for the bus service. But it has been suspended for 11 years, said a senior government official privy to the meeting.
Once the Araniko Highway is brought back into operation, the bus service can be resumed, according to the official. “Once the highway will be completed with Chinese support, it will widen our tourism and trade prospects,” the official said.
Considering the growing number of Chinese tourists in Nepal, China could consider resuming the 14-hour bus service by easing visa restrictions, said the official. hina suspended the bus service in 2006 citing security concerns.
During the meeting, Nepal will also request the Chinese officials to issue three-day entry permit to non-residents of the bordering districts with China for the promotion of trade and tourism on the Chinese side.
Currently, the Chinese authorities issues only the one-day travel permit to those coming from outside of the bordering districts.


“Due to time constraints, trade and tourism per se, this is not enough for Nepali traders to visit Chinese commercial cities and bordering markets. So we will request the Chinese side to extend the duration of visa also for outsiders to cross the border into the Chinese territory, particularly the Tibet Autonomous Region,” said the official, adding that Nepal would called on China also to allow Nepali mountain flights over Manasarovar in Tibet.
Hundreds of Nepali tourism entrepreneurs are engaged in sending people on pilgrimage tour to Manasarovar, but they are struggling to conduct mountain flights due to lack of permission from the Chinese side.
“Due to difficult geographical terrain, many pilgrims could not reach Manasarovar overland. As such, mountain flights is the best option to expand the number of pilgrims, particularly in winter,” said the official.
