Third World most poluted city – Kathmandu, Nepal

9:58 AM

Kathmandu is a beautiful city. It is regarded as the city of temples. People from different walks of life come here seeking opportunities. Hence, it is the most populated place in Nepal. People from all around the world come here to get a glimpse of the very famous Pashupatinath temple and to observe the beauty of the mesmerising valley. But nowadays we can see the degradation of the environment in Kathmandu. Pollution has taken over the beauty of the city.

Kathmandu has always been a place of dynamic activities. As a result, pollution is increasing. Waste and garbage are thrown out everywhere from main roads to alleys. Tourists and even we are disgusted by this sight. The streets in the city are filled with filth where insects hover around and stray dogs search for food. The rivers flowing through the city are contaminated as garbage and waste are thrown on the banks of the river. Clean and fresh water that flow from the beautiful mountains in the valley’s periphery turn into dirt-filled water mixed with all kinds of waste products. When we pass through the roads, we cover our noses, but we’re never ashamed of causing the pollution. When we are on public or private vehicles we throw food wrapping on the road not caring about our actions. Photos by nayapage.
